I am sure that most of you would agree that Cumbalum is a beautiful area and as such we all hold a communal responsibility to keep it that way. This article gives you some insight and understanding on how you can contribute and be a part of this amazing community.

Our communal spaces are maintained by Ballina Shire Council (BSC), but BSC needs our input on a regular basis to uphold this maintenance at a schedule that suits our standard. So if a communal area feels like it is not being maintained, please read on and find out how you can best take action.

We love our spaces to be cared for and beautifully landscaped - it is a joy and inspiration!

Cumbalum is a beautiful area and when maintenance is neglected, it does not do justice to how lovely it actually is. Cumbalum is a large area and has lots of beautiful public spaces and nooks and crannies that require maintenance such as weeding, lawn mowing and mulching. Let's help keep it looking amazing and contact the Council today!

Many of the areas around Cumbalum can get overgrown with weeds, or lack a general maintenance to keep them looking great and welcoming. This is often a concern amongst residents and understandably so also in terms of safety for both children and adults, for example there is an increased risk of snakes hiding in long unmowed grass.

How you can help:

As discussed in previous community meetings, it is important that we all work together to contact Ballina Shire Council about the maintenance and weeding. With different people getting in touch with the council and advising which specific areas need maintenance, we will see more speedy results and they get to know exactly which areas are needing the maintenance and at what moment/time of the year etc.

The CRA has met with the BSC maintenance supervisor, and has discussed a maintenance schedule with them, however, the council still needs direct input from residents as mentioned above.

The best way you can support our community with this is to contact Ballina Shire Council directly and report an area that needs to be maintained - and the council is very good at responding to these matters within 10 days to 2 weeks, once they know the exact spot that needs maintenance.

Ballina Shire Contact Number is: 1300 864 444

That said some areas are still under the developers jurisdiction and Ballina Shire Council does not have permission to maintain these areas. For such areas the developer needs to be contacted (usually through LJ Hooker when it comes to land in Cumbalum). As an example, some residents have such an area behind their house that is not Council owned and so they simply advise LJ Hooker when the area needs to be mowed and they action it fairly quickly.

We trust this explains the system better for you!

Every call to action that you make to support the community is greatly appreciated.
